The other God on TV

The History Channel airs a lot of interesting and highly produced shows on religion. Most focus on alternative, gnostic and apocryphal bible tales. There was one on last night, Banned By the Bible II. It's the usual Da Vinci Code-type fare with that same guy who seems to do the voice overs for every cable channel. And The History Channel is not alone. It seems like every documentary cable channel has their own stylish take on the bible. Which makes me wonder. What does the religious right make of this? Leaders of the Christian movement are more than willing to boycott this (1) or that (2), so why no boycotts of The Discovery Channel? As the preponderance of Christian leaders claim the bible to be the absolute and final word of God isn't all this documentary making heresy? Perhaps they know in their heart of hearts the minute they open themselves to a rational discussion on the sources for this man-written bible their flock actually might start asking real questions? It's much easier to attack the gays.
